Beach United Methodist Church presents Vivaldi’s Gloria
Beach United Methodist Church will present a full choral and orchestral concert on Sunday, Feb. 13, at 3 p.m. in the Sanctuary. The BUMC Chancel Choir and members of the Southwest Florida Symphony under the direction of Dr. Douglas Renfroe will present excerpts from Vivaldi’s Gloria. Soprano Johanna Fincher will be the featured soloist on this work as well as on selections from Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi and Mozart’s Don Giovanni. Joining Ms Fincher in the Gloria will be mezzo soprano Elizabeth Whitmire. In addition, works by Vaughan-Williams, Gounod and selections from Broadway will be presented. The chamber orchestra will also be performing Faure’s Pavanne.
This concert is part of the BUMC Hibiscus Series, which is now in its third season. The series was created as a musical outreach program and has proven to be quite popular with area visitors. The programs presented are funded solely through free-will offerings and is not part of the church’s budget. This Series was the creation of Dr. Renfroe, Director of Music and Fine Arts, and Pastor Jeanne Davis. The Hibiscus Series has expanded to include events ranging from Paul Todd to the Southwest Florida String Quartet to Harpist Melody Anglin to solo concerts featuring musicians from around the world.
On Thursday, March 10, bass baritone Douglas Renfroe will be heard in concert at 7 p.m. The series will conclude with a Brass Quintet on Sunday, April 3, beginning at 2 p.m. All concerts are open to the public and a free-will offering will be collected to offset expenses.
