Lee County Sheriff’s Office begins seventh Annual LCSO Fitness Challenge
This year marks the seventh annual Lee County Sheriff’s Office Fitness Challenge. Last week over 150 employees weighed in to be some of the biggest losers in the yearly weight loss challenge. The winners are determined by overall percentage of change in body weight. Last year the Sheriff’s Office lost more than 1,500 pounds!
The concept of the challenge is simple; lose as much weight as you can in twelve weeks. Competitors form teams to help stay motivated and compete for prizes for being the “biggest losers.” A small donation to the prize fund is required to compete and 100 percent of the money is returned to the losers at the conclusion of the competition.
The concept of the fitness challenge is modeled after the 9-1-1 Fitness Challenge (911fitness.com). Retired Miami Dade Lt. Jim Sayih created the idea of the challenge as a motivational incentive for 911 responders to engage in fitness-oriented activities and to experience the benefits of a higher quality of life in fitness-oriented activities and to experience the benefits of a higher quality of life in fitness. This also promotes an atmosphere of friendly competition to promote and enhance camaraderie.
