Garden club celebrates Arbor Day
Members of the Estero Island Garden Club met on Jan. 17, for their annual Chinese Auction Fundraiser.
Members bring in plants to be raffled off, with proceeds going to beautification projects on our island and also to organizations that support preservation and conservation, such as Friends of Matanzas Pass Preserve.
In celebration of Arbor Day on Thursday, Jan. 20, the Garden Club gave each child in the fourth grade at Fort Myers Beach Elementary School a Slash Pine tree. There will be a demonstration oaf how to plant the tree, and each child will receive a certificate stating that he or she is a Fourth Grade Forester of Florida.
On Friday, Arbor Day, Garden Club members were at Bay Oaks Recreation Center to hand out the trees that residents have bought from the Town of Fort Myers Beach, designated as a Tree City, USA, in honor of its promotion of planting trees.
