CMCS reports Change of Watch dinner
On Jan. 8, 15 past commodores and members of the Caloosahatchee Marching and Chowder Society sailing club gathered for the annual Change of Watch dinner.
The new Commodore, Bob Duff of Fort Myers, took command from Past Commodore Cape Coral’s Joan Perkett. Other flag officer positions were accepted by Glen Vetter, Vice Commodore; Steve Romaine, Vice Commodore Summerset; Steve Roake, Rear Commodore Racing; Ned Christensen, Rear Commodore Cruising; Tim Stier, Purser; Kathleen Vance, Yeoman. Four new Directors were also installed: Roger Horton, Rose Ann Hoffman, Dee Vaigl and Stephanie Webb.
CMCS, the oldest sailing club south of St. Pete, also presented annual awards for Fleet Champions 2010 to: Spinnaker Fleet – Forrest Banks of Midnite Rider; Non-spinnaker Fleet – Steve Romaine of Air Supply; Multihull Fleet – Ned Christensen of Passion III; and Cruising Fleet – Cindy and David Naumann of Jolly Mon. Also, the trophy for Cruising and Exploration, for participation in the most club-sanctioned cruise events was presented to Carolyn and Ben Preston of Kestrel II.
Steve Romaine and Cindy Carlino of Air Supply accepted the prestigious Bomgardner Trophy from outgoing Commodore Joan Perkett. The Bomgardner award honors the most “well rounded” skipper in racing, cruising and race-cruise events.
CMCS members danced the night away, after the presentations, to the CMCS Band, “Petty Cash.” The band of six has three CMCS members, Tim Stier, Bill Misenheimer and Craig Ackerman.
The first CMCS race of the New Year is the Chili Cookoff Race on Saturday, Jan. 22. The three buoy races will be held in the Gulf off Fort Myers Beach. The Chili Cookoff party will start at 6 p.m. at the Cape Coral Yacht Club Pavilion.
