Cause of Beach boat fire tough to determine
A preliminary report on an ongoing investigation on what caused two boats to catch fire early Tuesday morning in the 50 Estero Blvd. area off Bowditch Point near Fort Myers Beach states the cause may be difficult if not impossible to determine.
While the fire destroyed both boats, nobody was hurt, according to Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission Officer Gary Morse. Both boats were fully engulfed in flames.
The incident involved a 23-foot Watkins sailboat, owned by Gordon McRae Hood, and a 39-foot Silverton vessel, owned by William Chester Frank.
The investigation may take weeks to uncover any wrongdoing if there proves to be any.
