Beach resident receives honor for math
Beach resident Mariah Kallil has been recognized by the United States Achievement Academy in Lexington, Ky. for a National Mathematics Award.
Kalill, who is a freshman at Cypress Lake High School, was born in Toledo, Ohio and attended North Cumberland Elementary, a school for grades 1-8. She was nominated by Miss Stacey Harrell as an eighth grader at that Tennessee school. Her family moved to the Beach in May of 2010.
The academy recognizes fewer than 10 percent of all American high school students. It is a prestigious honor very few students can hope to attain. Kallil will appear in the United States Achievement Academy’s official yearbook, which is published nationally.
“Recognizing and supporting our youth is more important than ever before in America’s history,” said Dr. George Stevens, founder of the United States Achievement Academy. “Certainly, United States Achievement Academy students should be congratulated and appreciated for their dedication to excellence and achievement.”
Each year until graduation, a national award winner from the academy can apply for 400 national scholarships for a cash grant to a higher education. The standards for selection to the national award include academic performance, interest and aptitude, leadership qualities, responsibility, enthusiasm, motivation to learn and improve, attitude, cooperative spirit, dependability and recommendation from a qualified sponsor.
“I’m proud beyond belief, and I know she will go on to be successful,” said Chelsea Kallil, Mariah’s mother. “She has been an AB honor student since she started school. We didn’t realize how good of a student she was even though she always received good grades. I know that she has good things coming her way.”
Mariah is a cheerleader at Cypress Lake H.S. who enjoys art and math.
