Bay Oaks to throw a fun holiday party
Santa Claus is coming to Bay Oaks Recreational Campus.
Ole St. Nic will be taking part in the Bay Oaks Holiday Party in the campus recreational center this Saturday (Dec. 18) from 5 to 8 p.m. Children of all ages are encouraged to visit the man from the North Pole, tell him what they want for Christmas and have a picture taken while sitting atop his lap.
The Bay Oaks staff will be setting up fun games to play including a bounce house so that kids can jump for joy. There will also be a chance to create crafts in Santa’s workshop as well as viewing holiday movies to be shown in one of the recreation rooms.
For the older children-at-heart, there will be a silent auction and 50/50 raffles to help in the gift-giving part of the holiday season. Remember, once the party date arrives, there will only be 14 days until Christmas!
If you’re attending the event, Bay Oaks officials want to make sure you come hungry. There will be concessions featuring hamburgers, hot dogs and other snacks and drink available for the right price.
Cost to attend the holiday party is $4 per person or $10 for a family of four (additional family members are $2 per person).
“This is a family event with obviously a focus on the kids,” said Randy Norton, special events coordinator at Bay Oaks. “We will have prizes that the kids can win.”
And, while the outdoor temperatures have begun to drop to levels where you may have a chance to see some solid precipitation occur, there will be snow at the event. According to Norton, children will be able to build tabletop snowmen thanks to the use of a snow-making kit.
“This is a new feature to Bay Oaks long-standing annual event,” said Norton. “No snowballs, though.”
Since the staff at Bay Oaks is decorating the recreational center beforehand, there will be a holiday glow surrounding the event. In fact, families are encouraged to have their photos taken in a theme center built inside the gymnasium.
“I think the holiday party is a wonderful opportunity for families to come out and have fun with their friends and celebrate the holidays and have a good time,” said Norton.
Proceeds from the purchased food, silent auction and raffles benefit Bay Oaks’ youth, teen and senior programs. The gate fees help to fray the costs of putting on the event.
