Publix offers holiday promotion
Between now and Dec. 31, Publix Supermarkets in Southwest Florida are offering a special “Food for Sharing; Food Is Love” promotion to help needy families. By donating a food bag to those in need, the customer will receive a free, limited edition reusable bag.
Customers can choose one of three grocery bags; each bag has a different cost and contains different food items, which will feed a family of four for one meal. The gold bag, selling for $10.84, contains fruit cocktail, home-style mashed potatoes, green beans, long-grain rice and a Plumrose ham. The silver bag, selling for $8.35, has green beans, corned beef hash, grape jelly, and creamy peanut butter. The bronze bag, with a cost of $5.66, has fruit cocktail, green beans, chunky light tuna, and Viena sausage.
The Harry Chapin Food Bank solicits, collects and stores quality food for distribution to families in need through a network of more than 170 local nonprofit agencies in Lee, Collier, Hendry, Charlotte and Glades counties, who provide food to more than 30,000 people monthly. More than 800,900 pounds of food are distributed monthly. For every dollar donated, about $6 in food value goes back to the community. In the past fiscal year, The Harry Chapin Food Bank distributed more than 9.6 million pounds of food and other grocery products.
