Postmasters collect over $20K for breast cancer research
Postmasters of Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Naples, Sanibel, Marco Island, Estero, Bonita Springs and Pineland combined forces to launch an October Breast Cancer Research postage stamp promotion that resulted in sales of
9, 278 sheets of the stamps, which in turn generated $20,411.60 in funding for breast cancer research. Seventy percent of the funding goes to the National Institutes Of Health and 30 percent goes to the Medical Research Program at the Department of Defense.
Postal red, white & blue became postal pink for the month as these Postmasters competed to see who could sell the most. Sanibel Post Office took the lead with $4,030.40 in research funding placing them in the top 10 offices nationwide. Cape Coral Central and North Fort Myers post offices were ranked in the top 10 offices for the Suncoast District.
The Breast Cancer Awareness semi-postal stamp is available for purchase year round with availability at most post offices. The stamps are also available from www.usps.com or by calling 1-800-STAMP-24. The stamps sell for $.55 each with $.11 funding to breast cancer research.
