Beach United hosts first Hibiscus Series concert
The Beach United Methodist Church Hibiscus Series will begin on Sunday, Nov. 7. The concert will feature lyric coluratura Johanna Fincher and will include music from Classical to Broadway.
Ms Fincher has sung with the Sarasota Opera and has danced with the Sarasota Ballet, which is quite unique. Her voice has thrilled audiences throughout Florida, and has recently returned from a concert tour of Bulgaria, Budapest, Prague and Bratislava. She has performed Haydn’s CREATION at the Varna International Music Festival (Bulgaria), Haydn’s LORD NELSON MASS in Vienna and Budapest, as well as the Mozart REQUIEM in Bulgaria and Budapest. She most recently sang CARMINA BURANA with the Charlotte Symphony.
Ms Fincher has performed in recent years with members of the SWFL Symphony as part of the BUMC Hibiscus Series, and is well known as a soloist on numerour concerts with bass baritone Douglas Renfroe. On Nov. 21, she will be performing Handel’s MESSIAH with the “Voices of Naples” and members of the Naples Philharmonic. Future concert engagements include the Vivaldi GLORIA at BUMC in February.
The concert will include Donna Smith, piano, Gayle Heskett, Flute and Elisabeth Whitmire, soprano. The program will be held in the Sanctuary of Beach United Methodist Church and begins at 2 p.m. There will be a reception to meet the artists following the concert.
