Ostego Bay reopens and announces birthday bash

The Ostego Bay Foundation Marine Science Center at 718 Fisherman Wharf has reopened to the public. Its new hours of operation are as follows: Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The center asks for a donation of $5 per adult, $2 for children age 5 or older and allows children under 5 free admission.

The Ostego Bay Foundation is a 501(3) nonprofit organization which provides interactive educational experiences for children and adults. The touch tank and aquariums hold various local marine life and the exhibits provide a personal understanding of the Southwest Florida marine environment.

Certified Florida Master Naturalists and educators are also available to provide nature-based outdoor classes, nature walks and field trips for both children and adults. Special field trips and tours are available upon request.

On Oct. 30, the Ostego Bay Foundation Marine Science Center will be celebrating its 19th year of operation. The ‘birthday bash’ party will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the center. Come help celebrate. Free admission and refreshments and birthday cake will be provided.

That same evening, join the fun for the Calusa Blueway Paddling Festival Reception from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at Bonita Bill’s Waterfront Cafe at 702 Fishermans Wharf. It is sponsored by Canoe & Kayak magazine. Come meet the magazine’s publisher, Jim Marsh. There will be food, drinks, raffles and prizes. A donation will gain you admission and a Blueway wristband.

All proceeds go to Calusa Blueway and the Ostego Bay Foundation. Celebrate Southwest Florida’s 190-mile marked paddling trail -The Calusa Blueway- with 10 days of on-water eco-festivities happening throughout Lee County along the Beaches of Fort Myers and Sanibel.

The annual Silent Auction and All-You-Can-Eat fish Fry to benefit the Ostego Bay Foundation has changed its dates and is now being held on Friday, Dec. 3, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Bonita Bill’s. The fish fry costs $10 per person.
