Estero Island Garden Club members had their first meeting of the 2010-2011 season on Oct. 18 at the newly refurbished Newton House on Estero Boulevard.

Theresa Schober presented the history of the Newton House and explained that the house was preserved because of its social history, whereas the cottage next door had an interesting architectural history, but its history was not deemed relevant enough to justify its preservation.

On Nov. 1, club members will meet at Plaka’s for breakfast at 9 a.m. and then spend the morning sprucing up the large urns on Times Square.

Anyone interested in joining the Estero Island Garden Club should contact Madeline at kinderella1@aol.com or Becky at 463-4102.
