2 min read

Continuing its commitment to the future of renewable energy, Florida Power & Light Company and the Edison & Ford Winter Estates celebrate Energy Awareness Month with the unveiling of a solar array and learning center at the historic site. The installation is an extension of FPL’s successful Next Generation Solar Education Station program to provide opportunities for children and families to learn about renewable energy.

Local elementary school students, special guests, Edison & Ford Winter Estates administrators and education specialists, who will use the panels in classroom discussions, will be on handThursday, Oct. 28, at 11:30 a.m. at Edison & Ford Winter Estates at 2350 McGregor Blvd. in Fort Myers.

Edison & Ford Winter Estates’ Next Generation Solar Education Station includes solar panels similar to those operating at FPL’s DeSoto Next Generation Solar Energy Center in Arcadia, Fla and an Museum exhibit in the Hall of Inventions. The project will provide visiting families and school classes a hands-on tool to learn about renewable energy.

Edison & Ford Winter Estates is one of 11 locations in Florida where FPL is installing Next Generation Solar Education Stations.Recently, Edison & Ford Winter Estates education specialists joined colleagues from other schools and education centers at an FPL solar training workshop to learn how to incorporate renewable energy lessons into a curriculum that meets Sunshine State Standards.FPL offers renewable energy curriculum sessions throughout the year for teachers statewide and, by the end of 2010, will have enabled 150 educators to bring the latest solar technology curriculum back to their classrooms.
