Deputies arrest five suspected in stolen credit card enterprise
On Oct. 5, members of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office Highway Criminal Interdiction Unit stopped two rental cars traveling southbound on I-75 for having illegally tinted windows. Deputies could smell marijuana coming from both cars and interviews with the occupants revealed several indicators of possible criminal activity.
Probable cause searches of both vehicles revealed property taken in more than 25 burglaries that had occurred within the past couple of days with the majority occurring in the Sarasota area.
Inside the vehicles, deputies located a cache of stolen driver licenses, social security cards, checks and bank cards along with cell phones and several thousands of dollars in cash.
Further investigation reveals the five suspects would commit auto burglaries along the Interstate 75 corridor…stealing people’s identification, credit cards and checks and then hiring people that resemble the victims to cash checks stolen in the burglaries.
The following face charges including Dealing in Stolen Property; Possessing ID without consent of the owner and Possession of Burglary Tools:
Jerome Glinton, DOB 1-10-91, Fort Lauderdale
Jarod Jackson, DOB 10-10-83, Fort Lauderdale
Tiarra Ferguson, DOB 4-25-91, Fort Lauderdale
Shawanna Greene, DOB 9-22-86, Fort Lauderdale
Lucious Felder, DOB 12-16-89, Fort Lauderdale
Additional charges are pending.
The Highway Criminal Interdiction Unit is working with the Sarasota Police Department to confirm the burglaries and return the stolen property.
