Boca Grande sets Fall Festival

2 min read

The Boca Grande Fall Festival will be held Friday, Oct. 22 through Monday, Oct. 25, in downtown Boca Grande and at the Gasparilla Inn & Club.

The festival’s street party on Saturday, Oct. 23, features The Landsharks, the official house band of Margaritaville Orlando performing a three-hour Jimmy Buffett buffet. They will be joined on the Park Avenue stage by island favorites The Boca Bande and Sarasota’s Tucci Group.

Thirteen classically trained area chefs will also be on hand Saturday to square off at the festival’s second annual, anything goes barbecue cookoff.

“This isn’t your typical barbecue competition,” says Lynda Lancaster, executive director of the Boca Grande Area Chamber of Commerce. The chamber is hosting the event, which benefits the organization’s “Educate Boca” scholarship fund. “The chefs can choose to make whatever they want. And they do. Everything from cajun shrimp to ribs – it will be there.” The cookoff is sponsored by Landshark Lager and Peace River Distributing.

Also back, and adding to the “Fins” motif of the festival, is a mechanical hammerhead shark that bucks like a bronco. “It was the hit of last year’s event,” Lancaster said.

The Saturday street party will be capped by fireworks over the Gulf of Mexico at sundown when CenturyLink Highspeed Internet lights up the sky. The street party begins at10 a.m.

Also on Saturday, artisans from throughout Florida will display their fine art and crafts at the art village. And there will also be “Munchkinville,” featuring prizes, mascots, games, a jump house and more.

The festival kicks off Friday night as street musicians fill every corner of the village for an old-fashioned walk-about.Merchants will provide refreshments and a venue to greet, meet and dance in the streets.

On Monday, Oct. 25, The Boca Grande Fall Scramble hosted by the Gasparilla Inn & Club takes place on the Pete Dye designed course overlooking Charlotte Harbor.Usually restricted to members and guests of the hotel, the tournament is the only time the course is open to the public. The scramble is sponsored by Gasparilla Properties and Grande Aire Services.
