Local middle school chosen for prestigious program

Lee County Public Schools is proud to announce that Lexington Middle School has been authorized as a three-year International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program school. The school joins an global community dedicated to providing rigorous educational opportunities for students to prepare them for tomorrow.

International Baccalaureate consists of three programs for students ages 319, which help develops the intellectual, personal, emotional and social skills to live, learn and work in a rapidly globalizing world. There are more than861,000IB students at3,052 schools in139countries.

The Middle Years Program isfor students ages 11-16 and provides a framework of academic challenge and life skills, achieved through embracing and transcending traditional school subjects. Each program includes a curriculum and pedagogy, student assessment appropriate to the age range, professional development for teachers and a process of school authorization and evaluation.

Lexington Middle joins a family of Lee County schools that offer the IB program, including Fort Myers High School, which has ranked as the top IB Diploma high school in North America, and the third-best IB Diploma high school in the world.
