Food bank participates in hunger action month
September is Hunger Action Month, and the Harry Chapin Food Bank of Southwest Florida is asking for your participation.Food banks and hunger-relief organizations across the country are celebrating the month, a nationwide effort to fight hunger in every community.One out of every eight people in the United States faces hunger.This is a reality in Southwest Florida.Each and every one of them needs our help.
Join the Harry Chapin Food Bank in aspiring for a hunger-free Southwest Florida.You can be a part of this important initiative. By contacting The Harry Chapin Food Bank, you can find a number of activities that you, your family and friends can participate in. Each activity provides an opportunity to help the thousands of people in our community who are struggling with hunger.

nSigning up for the January WINK News Feeds Families Hunger Walk
nJoining the October 15 Blu Sushi Golf Tournament
nHelping stuff the Lee Tran bus by donating food on Sept. 19 at any Publix Supermarket in Lee County from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The nationwide Hunger Action Month effort is being coordinated by Feeding America, formerly named America’s Second Harvest. It helps food banks in every state to mobilize their communities.As men, women, and children step up to the plate to help their neighbors, the collective efforts have the potential to bring about monumental change-not just in September, but in the months ahead; not just in Southwest Florida, but in every town in America.
Be a part of the Hunger Action Month and do whatever you can to take action against hunger. Take part in Harry Chapin events, write to your Senators and Representatives about hunger in our community, tell your friends and co-workers about Hunger Action Month, volunteer time, donate food or funds to the Harry Chapin Food Bank, or volunteer at your local food pantry or soup kitchen.

The Harry Chapin Food Bank solicits, collects and stores quality food for distribution to families in need through a network of more than 170 local nonprofit agencies in Lee, Collier, Hendry, Charlotte and Glades counties, who provide food to more than 30,000 people monthly.More than 750,000 pounds of food are distributed monthly. In the past fiscal year, The Harry Chapin Food Bank distributed more than 9 million pounds of food and other grocery products.
