Waterside Festival set to combat breast cancer

3 min read

The owners of Snook Bight Yacht Club and Marina, Bayfront Bistro and Marine Max are teaming up once again to join the fight against breast cancer with a weekend of Fort Myers Beach fun in support of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Southwest Florida Affiliate.

Boaters, sailors, families and guests young and old will all find something of interest at Snook Bight and Bayfront Bistro’s second annual “All Aboard Against Breast Cancer” Waterside Festival on Nov. 19 and 20, 2010, at Snook Bight, 4765 Estero Blvd, located behind the Publix Shopping Center on Fort Myers Beach, or for boaters at Bay Channel Marker 27, VHF Channel 72, GPS 26’26.205 N 81’55.160W.

“Last year we exceeded our expectations and gave Susan G. Komen for the Cure over $70,000,” said Joe Yerkes, President of Snook Bight Yacht Club and Marina. “This year, our goal is to give $100,000. The fight against breast cancer is so important. This disease touches everyone in a family. We simply must do everything possible to win this battle.”

The weekend will start with an exclusive wine dinner and auction at the award-winning Bayfront Bistro, the hugely popular and most exclusive waterfront restaurant in the area. In the first full year of operation, Bayfront Bistro was awarded the prestigious Award of Excellence by Wine Spectator Magazine, one of only five award holders in Lee County and the only one in Fort Myers/Fort Myers Beach. The restaurant also received the Wine Enthusiast Award of Distinction in January of this year. Additionally, Bayfront Bistro has been awarded the important National Restaurant Neighbor Award Florida for its community service activities including the spectacular 2009 Susan G Komen success. Bayfront now competes for one of four national awards in Washington DC this September. These prominent honors assure the Friday night dinner will more than exceed expectations.

The festival continues the next day with a complimentary event open to the Public on Saturday, Nov.r 20, at the marina. Waterside activities include an in-water boat show and demonstrations by Sea Ray Yachts, as well as hands-on demonstrations of the all-newpiloting systems from MerCruiser.

Live music will be performed throughout the day. And the Game Guys will be there with fun X-Box and Wii games for kids of all ages. There will also be an “All Aboard Cocktail for the Cure,” BBQ Extravaganza, and a silent auction and raffle.

A portion of the dinner and all net proceeds from the auctions and chance drawings will directly benefit the Komen Southwest Florida Affiliate whose promise is to save lives and end breast cancer forever by empowering people, ensuring quality care for all and energizing science to find the cures.

“We can’t thank Snook Bight and Joe Yerkes enough for their belief in our charity,” said Miriam Ross, Executive Director of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Southwest Florida Affiliate. “I know that this will be an amazing weekend due to the special group of people dedicated to making it a success.”

The festival is free and open to the public. The wine dinner is $100 per person, reservations are required, seating is limited. For dinner reservations, call 239-765-4371 or for more information about the events, please visit www.SnookBightMarina.com.
