BOB PETCHER Wahoo Willies, a popular eatery in the Times Square area, caught on fire Monday evening.

Wahoo Willies at 1021 Estero Blvd suffered through a kitchen fire at approximately 8 p.m. Monday evening.

According to FMB Fire Inspector Joe Reed, the fire at the Times Square eatery and bar was extinguished by roughly 10 p.m. last night, and the power in the area was shut off during the suppression activities.

“It appears it started down in the kitchen area above one of the stoves, and it crawled up through the corner of the building,” said Reed. “We were able to get it knocked down once we found the seeded fire and then started our investigation.

“We had the power shut down in the vicinity because there are so many high wires coming up around. If the fire would have caught on to the next building, we would have been spraying water on the wires.”

Reed said FPL came out to restore power after the fire was extinguished. The power at Wahoo Willies remained off as the ongoing investigation continued.

Nearby businesses were open for business Tuesday morning. Breakfast was being served at Pete’s Time Out and Plaka Restaurant, two neighboring eateries in the Times Square area which were unaffected (except for the Monday evening power outage).

“It was a great job by the fire fighters to put it out,” said Reed. “We were lucky it didn’t extend to another building because they are so close to each other. With our minimum manning, that’s always an issue.”
