Tobacco-free coalition sets meeting
Over the past year the Tobacco-Free Lee Coalition has been instrumental in bringing about policy change through grass roots involvement from leaders within the student, business, health and faith communities to cut tobacco-use rates. This month’s meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 18, from 2:30 to 4:30 pm at the Lee County Health Department at 83 Pondella Road in North Fort Myers.
“The Tobacco-Free Lee Coalition is a community partnership that brings together organizational resources to decrease the rate of tobacco users in Lee County.The primary objectives of the coalition are to decrease the numbers of youth and pregnant women using tobacco,” said Brendan Donohue, tobacco program specialist, Lee County Health Department.?Additional initiatives of the coalition are:
– tobacco-free multi-unit dwellings;
– marketing restrictions on candy flavored tobacco products that target youth; and
– K-12 tobacco-free school policy.
The public is welcome at all coalition meetings. Future coalition meetings will be held the third Wednesday of each month from 2:30 to 4:30 pm at a location to be determined.?
