Friends of Mound House hold fund raiser

2 min read

As August is the 90th anniversary of the 19th Amendment, The Friends of the Mound House are celebrating in style with their summer fund raiser at South Beach Grille on Friday, Aug. 20, from noon to 3:00 p.m. Highlighting the day will be an amusing yet dramatic program presented by Laurie Nienhaus about the radical suffragist, Alice Paul.

The brilliant Alice Paul became the woe of Woodrow Wilson due to the radical tactics of her suffrage organization, The National Woman’s Party. While not as militant as the British suffragettes, these women were the first examples of civil disobedience in our country and it was through their efforts that suffrage was kept in the public eye even during a world war.

The day also includes a silent auction featuring items such as hotels stays along our beach, passage on the Key West Express, Broadway Palm tickets, fine cigars, sunset cruises, golf packages, salon services and wine and spa baskets.

So beat the dog days of summer, help us raise funds, and learn the almost unbelievable story of one of the most dramatic moments in American history – all while enjoying South Beach Grille’s twist on a 1920’s style lunch.

The doors open at noon for a cocktail hour – specifically a cash bar also featuring 1910’s drink specials. A fee of $20 for members and $25 for non-members includes the program, lunch, coffee, tea, or soda, dessert, tax and gratuity.

Call Laurie Nienhaus at 463-1079 to make your reservations. Checks can also be mailed to PO Box 154, Fort Myers Beach, FL 33931. South Beach Grille is located at 7205 Estero Blvd. in Santini Plaza. The deadline for reservations is Thursday, Aug. 19.
