Breast-feeding center opens Friday

Lee County Health Department is opening a center to increase health services for breast-feeding mothers.

To celebrate World Breast-feeding Week from Aug. 1 to Aug. 7, the Women, Infants & Children Breast-feeding Welcome Center will host their grand opening on Friday, Aug. 6, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 3920 Michigan Ave. in Fort Myers.

Moms that come to the grand opening event and exclusively breast-feed their babies while being honored by having their pictures taken and placed on the “celebrity wall.”

Breast-feeding a newborn is a personal experience and health department staff can assist moms explore how breast-feeding fits in with their family values and what they want for their relationship with their baby. The new WIC Breast-feeding Welcome Center offers classes, a support group, one-on-one assistance, breast pumps to eligible clients, as well as, referrals to other resources in the community that support breast-feeding moms and their families.
