Back-to-More program offered at Beach United
In keeping with the discipline of the Back-to-School schedule, a Sept. 2 event called Back-to-More hosted by the Beach unit of United Methodist Women will be a day-long session at Beach United Methodist Church at 155 Bay Rd. (behind the library). The program will be from 8:45 a.m. to 2:15 p.m.
It would be hard to over-estimate the importance of Back-to-School. Support and best wishes are offered to students, teachers, administrators, and staffs for the new school year now underway.
Likewise, the significance of Back-to-More defies measurement.Who can put a price on wisdom, faith, hope, love, empathy, kindness, selflessness, respect, humility, sacrifice, fellowship, meditation, and the like?
Surely it was school that equipped Cheryl Beckett, one of the aid workers recently murdered in Afghanistan, with the skills to become valedictorian of her high school class and earn a degree from Indiana Wesleyan University. Most certainly it was more that motivated Cheryl to specialize in nutritional gardening at ECHO and study mother/child health before going to Afghanistan where one in six women die in childbirth.
Back-to-More is an opportunity being offered to all Beach women, men, and visitors at the Beach United Methodist Church on Thursday, Sept. 2.The focus of the day-long session will be “Peace.” Appearing in DVD presentations will be Archbishop Elias Chacour, Rabbi Mordechai Liebling, and Imam Sayyid Syeed, each speaking of “Peace” from his perspective.A line in Bishop Palmer’s recent column read, “Until the religions of the world learn how to live peaceably together, there will never be peace on Earth.”
Those attending are invited to bring a salad or favorite dish to share for lunch. Reservations will help the host church to prepare adequate space.Residents and visitors alike may please call 463-9656 to reserve a place. One need not be a church member in order to attend. A room for quiet listening will be provided for those who may be fasting at this time.To give or to receive further information or to offer help, please phone 481-2531 or 437-9790.
