ABWA elects new officers

The new 2010-2011 officers of the Fort Myers American Business Women’s Association are Sheila Bedwell, president; Lynda Rubenstein, vice president; Pat Kluge, recording secretary; Kathi O’Shaughnessy, treasurer; and Jean Miller, corresponding secretary.
The Fort Myers Beach chapter recently merged with the Fort Myers chapter.
The mission statement of the American Business Women’s Association is to bring together women of diverse occupations and to provide opportunities for them to help themselves and others grow personally and professionally through leadership, education, networking support and national recognition. The next meeting for the local ABWA is scheduled for Sept. 21, at 5:30 p.m. The speaker is Lauren Casey from WINKTV. She will be speaking on hurricane preparedness for your home and business. The event will be held at the Royal Palm Yacht Club on First Street on the Caloosahatchee River in downtown Fort Myers.

The following day, Sept. 22, is national American Business Women’s Day. Hilary A. Bufton Jr., a Kansas city businessman, founded ABWA in 1949 when he recognized women’s potential and saw the need for an organization to support and empower them. Professional development remains the cornerstone of ABWA.
