Lee VCB to kick off ‘Phase II’ of ad campaign

3 min read

The Lee County Visitor & Convention Bureau is kicking off Phase II of our Still Pristine advertising campaign today by inviting consumers to vote to “Bring Back Dan” and register for a chance win a nine-day vacation prize package. Dan is the comical and engaging star of nine 30-second television spots that we filmed and aired nationally on the same day from June 21-25 and June 28-July 1 on ABC Evening News with Diane Sawyer, the Weather Channel and key in-state markets. The groundbreaking campaign received accolades in news coverage by The New York Times and The Orlando Sentinel.

The success of our innovative “FreshTV” campaign prompted us to extend it with a widespread movement for Dan’s return to the destination that also features the vacation giveaway and the ability to vote for one’s favorite commercial. The spots with the highest votes will be reprised in a second round of advertising in key in-state feeder markets from July 19 through mid-September. If you didn’t catch all of the campaign, you can view the nine spots by visiting our web page, and you’ll find details of our new campaign extension in the news release we are distributing today.

Please help us drive widespread voting to “Bring Back Dan” and showcase our Still Pristine beaches. The more far reaching we can make the campaign, the more favorable attention we will receive for our destination.

Encourage your current and past visitors to visit our home page at www.FortMyers-Sanibel.com to register for the grand prize trip, vote to “Bring Back Dan,” and select their favorite commercial.

Join the Bell Tower Shops and other partners who already have helped spread the word about the campaign by linking their websites to “The Beaches Now” page of our website, posting a link on their Facebook pages, twittering about the commercials, and blogging about our proactive response to the Gulf oil spill.

On a related note, you also can assist us by sharing with your current and past visitors the recent projection by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration that the probability of oil impacting our destination is less than one percent. We provided you with that information and accompanying visuals in our Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill Bulletin #17 on July 6. Let us know if you need additional copies of that information, since it is quite a compelling story.

Lastly, our Still Pristine campaign is just one of the VCB’s many aggressive marketing efforts. Details of our latest programs can be found in our July TDC report.

Thank you for helping us promote our Still Pristine beaches. Let us know if you need any information or assistance from us in spreading the word within your spheres of influence.
