Chapel and Beach Kiwanis sponsor programs

Chapel by the Sea and the Fort Myers Beach Kiwanis are sponsoring the following programs to be held at Chapel by the Sea at 100 Chapel St. this summer. These programs are of no cost to the community. Space may be limited so please register as soon as possible. – Community Vacation Bible School (June 21 to 25/ 8:30 a.m. to noon)

Be ready for a lot of fun with Kalahari Crafts, Grassland Games, Savannah Storytelling, Madagascar Music, and Serengeti Science. On Friday June 25, all children are invited to stay all day for a special VBS celebration. The afternoon on Friday will begin with a picnic lunch (provided) and pony rides at Chapel, a self defense and bullying lesson by Fort Myers Karate, followed by a movie and a little down time at Chapel, before our closing dinner and program at 5:30 p.m. Families are invited to attend the VBS closing dinner and program on Friday, beginning at 5:30. After the dinner, a short program will follow where the children will show some of the things they learned during their exciting week at VBS.

– Safe Sitters at the Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida

Safe Sitter teaches adolescent baby sitters how to handle crises, how to keep their charges secure and how to nurture and guide a young child. In short, Safe Sitter baby sitters help children stay safe and sound while their parents are away. It is a medically oriented instruction course that teaches boys and girls ages 11 and up techniques for safe babysitting. Rescue breathing, choking, safety and first aid for the infant and child are a few of the many topics covered. This program will be held on Wednesday, July 7, and Wednesday July 14, from 5:30 to 9 p.m. at Chapel by the Sea.

– Self Defense and Bullying program

Evade, Escape and Win is a set of awareness, assertiveness, and verbal skills with safety strategies and physical techniques to help someone successfully escape, resist and survive a physical attack. There will be three programs held at Chapel, one for each age category: Kids (elementary age), Teens (middle/high school age), and for Adults.

For kids, this program will be held in the afternoon on the final day of vacation bible school held at Chapel on Friday, June 25, from 2-4 p.m. If you attend the afternoon program of VBS your child will attend this program. If you do not attend VBS, you may still register for this program.

For teens, there will be a self defense and bullying program for teens that will be held this summer, date to be determined. Please register if you are interested in this program and you will be contacted with the dates and program information once available.

For adults, there will be an adult self defense program that will be held in the fall, date to be determined. Please register if you are interested in this program and you will be contacted with the dates and program information once available.
