Beach Lions give first art scholarship

Tabia Lees, a senior at Cypress Lake High School, became the recipient of the inaugural Fred Robinson Memorial Scholarship for the Arts from the Fort Myers Beach Lions Club recently.
The Fred Robinson Scholarship is named for a long-time Beach Lion who loved the arts and, for many years, ran the annual Lions International Peace Poster contest locally in conjunction with Cypress Lakes High School’s Art Department.
The Beach Lions will also be announcing the rest of the Lions We Serve Scholarships in the next few weeks. The Lion’s Scholarship Fund is a special project of the Fort Myers Beach Lion’s Foundation which was set up in 1993 and has been awarding local scholarships every year since.
The fund receives separate tax deductible donations from the public and is augmented by proceeds from the Fort Myers Beach Lions Shrimp Festival the second weekend in March every year.
“Lions are proud of their record of never using any of the funds donated to the Foundation for administration or fund raising,” said Foundation President Patsy Dorsey. “Tax deductible donations are welcome for the Scholarship Fund and may be made to Fort Myers Beach Lions Foundation, PO Box 5019, Fort Myers Beach FL 33932.”
