BECKY BODNAR Laurie says her good-byes to the Bay Oaks Social Seniors.

On May 31, Bay Oaks Social Seniors met at Chapel by the Sea for their Memorial Day Spring Barbecue. They also met to say goodbye to Laurie Satalino because it was the last day that she would be the director of B.O.S.S.

Laurie had been with the group since its founding in 2003, back in the day when Marsha Segal-George was the town manager. The group began with 58 members, and today, under Laurie’s leadership, there are more than 250 members in B.O.S.S. Laurie scheduled many and varied activities for Seniors, keeping them physically, mentally, and socially active. When Lee County was in charge of Bay Oaks, Laurie’s position was full-time, but the directorship of B.O.S.S. became part-time when the Town of Fort Myers Beach took over Bay Oaks in 2009.

Laurie remained with the county on a full-time basis working at Wa-Ke Hatchee Rec Center as well as with the Bay Oaks Social Seniors on a part-time basis. This schedule finally proved to be too much, so with great regret, Laurie is leaving Bay Oaks and B.O.S.S. members will miss her greatly; in addition, with Laurie’s departure, the leadership of BOSS, the largest membership group at Bay Oaks, is in the hands of one part-time person and a volunteer. As dedicated as these two people are, seniors are hopeful that even in these difficult times, Town Council will find a way to give BOSS the full-time leadership that it needs in order to serve the them in this community now and in the years to come.
