93-year-old woman critical after collision

On Thursday, June 10, 2010, at approximately 3:09 p.m., the Lee County Sheriff’s Office received a call about a traffic crash. The incident occurred at 27460 Bourbonniere Drive, in the Imperial Bonita Estates community of Bonita Springs, Florida. Deputies responded to the scene.

The crash involved a woman in a wheelchair, identified as 93 year old, Ivilou B. Oates of 27447 Bourbonnier Drive. She was struck by a vehicle driven by Susan Maureen Foster (DOB 06-06-60) of 27252 Bourbonnier Drive. Due to the nature of the incident, a deputy with the Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit was assigned to investigate. Preliminary findings indicate Ms. Bates had retrieved her mail and turned into the path of the southbound vehicle. Ms. Bates suffered numerous injuries and her left leg was severed. She was airlifted to the Trauma Center at Lee Memorial Hospital. She is in critical condition.

No charges have been filed.
