Squadrons prepare for boating month

2 min read

There are four United States Power Squadrons represented in Lee County and they work together throughout the year promoting Safe Boating in the Lee County Area. May is National Safe Boating Month.

The public is invited and encouraged to contact the closest squadron to where they live or do their boating to hear what the squadrons have to offer for Safe Boating.

All four of these Power Squadrons offer Public Boating Courses for a nominal fee and free Vessel Safety Checks. Know before you go that your boat meets all U.S. Coast Guard and Florida equipment and registration requirements. The VSC examiner comes to where you keep your boat. Remember to WEAR your Life Jacket whenever you are out boating and that Alcohol and Boating Don’t Mix.

As part of National Safe Boating Month the Squadron’s would like to make you aware of the Alliance for Safe Navigation Foundation which is very appropriate for navigating the shifting sea bottoms in the Southwest Area of the Gulf of Mexico and the local rivers and channels.
