Lee Parks: Shoreline walks and programs continue

Bunche Beach Preserve

– Low Tide Loafing at sunset – Join a volunteer naturalist and leisurely explore the mud flats to see what mysteries the low tide uncovers while enjoying a beautiful Florida sunset as well! Wear shoes that can get wet, don’t forget your camera, water and bug spray. Days and times will vary depending on the tides. The next walks are scheduled for May 25, and June 24, at 6:30 pm. Walks are about one hour in length. Bunche Beach is located at 18201 John Morris Rd.

Matanzas Pass Preserve FREE!

– Exploring Ethnobotany – Learn how indigenous plants can be used for such things as food, shelter, medicine and clothing. Learn the historical importance of some of Florida’s plants to humans. Walks meet the last Wednesday of every month. The next walk is scheduled for May 26. Meet at the entrance to Matanzas Pass Preserve. These walks begin at 9:30 .am. and last approximately 1 1/2 hours. This is a free walk and there is no fee for parking but space is limited so come early. Matanzas Pass preserve is located at 199 Bay Road.

Group guided tours for other environmental walks at Matanzas Pass Preserve are available year round upon request by calling 229-7356.

Bowditch Point Park

– Morning Eco Tour – The next scheduled trip will take place on June 1, from 9 a.m. to noon. Join us and paddle San Carlos Bay, Hurricane Bay and Pelican Bay in search of Dolphin, Manatee and a wide variety of birds. Tour last approximately three hours. Cost for this trip is $40 per person and you must pre-register at www.leeparks.org or by calling 533-7440 a minimum of 48 hours in advance.

Dog Beach

– Kayak With Your Canine – If you and your pooch are experienced, well mannered kayak paddlers or if you enjoy paddling without your pooch, this trip is for you. Meet at kayak launch across from Dog Beach on Estero Blvd just south of Lovers Key. No dogs over 100 pounds permitted and only one dog per boat permitted. Dogs are free but must have current vaccinations and wear their own lifejacket. The next trip is scheduled for Wednesday, May 19, and runs from 9 to 11 a.m. Cost for this program is $40 per person and you must register a minimum of 48 hours in advance.
