2 min read

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office recently received a national law enforcement award forits “extraordinary example of excellence in public safety.” It marks the seventh time the sheriff’s office has been honored by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. The Sheriff’s Office also reached a milestone earlier this year when CALEA named it a “flagship” agency, one of 22 agencies nationwide to receive that honor.

The CALEA Flagship Agency Program is designed to acknowledge CALEA accredited public safety agencies that have demonstrated success in the accreditation process. The program also serves to provide other agencies seeking accreditation with examples of “best practices” on how to address compliance, policy development, file maintenance and other issues relating to the accreditation process.

The Flagship Agency designation is effective for the duration of the current three year award period. Prior to each conference, CALEA staff selects flagship agencies basedprimarily on their past awards, current assessment and overall professional standing in the public safety community.

Chief Deputy Rob Homan states that he was pleased to accompany Accreditation Manager Tanya Tanner and Lieutenant Adam Sedwick to the conference in Dallas the weekend of March 27-28, 2010 to receive the awards on behalf of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.According to Chief Homan “the accomplishments achieved as a result of the CALEA process is a validation of our agency’s professionalism and sincere desire to serve ourcitizens well and to live up to our motto of ‘Proud to Serve.’ “
