Person of interest sought in series of car break-ins on San Carlos Island
Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers is asking for the public’s help identifying a man who detectives believe broke into several vehicles, while their owners were enjoying some time away in Key West.
Sometime between 11 p.m. on April 1 and 6 a.m. on April 2, someone smashed the windows and stole various electronic equipment from 11 cars parked in front of the Key West Express, 1200 Main Street, Fort Myers Beach. The cars were left in the parking lot overnight by patrons of the shuttle boat business. When an employee of the business came to work early Friday morning, April 2, they discovered the cars had been damaged and immediately reported that information to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office. Over the last two weeks, detectives have uncovered information which leads them to believe that a
white male, who likely works on a shrimp boat just down the street from the Key West Express, is the person responsible for those crimes.
Damage to the 11 vehicles is estimated in the thousands of dollars, coupled with a comparable cost for the list of items stolen from the cars.
Attached is a photo of the person of interest in this case, which was captured at a beach-area bank. Detectives are asking anyone with information on the identity of this man, and his current whereabouts, to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS (8477).
