FMBAA offers scholarships through exhibit
The Fort Myers Beach Art Association will again offer students from Cypress Lake High School, Cypress Lake School of the Arts and Cypress Lake Middle School the opportunity to show their artwork in a gallery exhibition. Gallery officials will begin receiving artwork on Wednesday, April 14, from 3 to 5 p.m. A reception for the awards presentation will be held on Sunday, April 25, from 3 to 5 p.m. Chairwoman Patty Kane and co-chair, Elaine Finelli, are in charge of the exhibit and reception. The judges for the exhibition will be Suzanne Brown, Tracy Cullimore and Pauline Healey.
Three high school scholarship awards ($1,000 for first place; $900 for second; and $800 for third) and three middle school awards (art-related awards for the top three places) will be given.
Fundraisers from the art association such as Art Bazaar held at the library and Art on the Boulevard sponsored by Century 21 Tripower have helped raise scholarship money. The Town of Fort Myers Beach has contributed toward the show and scholarships.
FMBAA is also raffling a watercolor by Maya Bryant at the gallery and all those proceeds will also go to the scholarship fund. The raffle drawing will be at the reception.
“It is always exciting to see what the new generation is creating and a wonderful opportunity for the students to exhibit their work in a gallery setting,” said FMBAA President Michele Buelow.
The gallery on Donora Street is open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 3 p.m. on Sunday until the show closes. For more information call 463-3903.
