Mothers Against Drunk Driving honors local deputies

2 min read

On Monday, March 29, three members of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit will be recognized in Tallahassee for their efforts through the 2009 year in combating impaired driving.

Corporal Leonard Gould, Deputy Glenn Jones and Deputy Robert Shaw of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit will be receiving the “Century Achievers, Mothers Against Drunk Driving 100+ Award.” The awards luncheon will be at the Tallahassee-Leon County Civic Center.

Each of these deputies personally removed over 100 impaired drivers from Lee County roads in 2009. Their efforts undoubtedly saved countless lives and prevented countless others from being injured. These DUI enforcement efforts take a toll on the individual officers as each arrest is usually followed by multiple hearings and a court case. The productivity displayed by these officers shows their dedication to their jobs and their community.

Sheriff Mike Scott’s support of traffic safety operations in Lee County has helped make these accomplishments possible. Enforcement practices displayed by these deputies have kept DUI related injuries and fatalities down. They have prevented families from having to deal with the tragedies and losses associated with impaired driving.

“The sum total of lives saved and injuries prevented by these dedicated Deputies is significant, and I applaud their extraordinary efforts,” said Sheriff Scott.
