Mango Street Inn holds poetry reading

1 min read

Laurie Nienhaus will kick off National Poetry Month in style by presenting “Remembering Miss Millay” on Monday, March 29, beginning at 7 p.m. at The Mango Street Inn on 126 Mango Street. An evening of lovely wine, sweet confections and a poetry reading from the works of Edna St. Vincent Millay can be expected, according to the local author, playwright and speaker.

“This is one of my most dramatic programs,” said Nienhaus. “I speak of the life and loves of Edna St. Vincent Millay and interspersed throughout are readings of her work. Almost without fail, the audience both laughs and cries. Her work still greatly touches people.”

Edna St. Vincent Millay (1892-1950) was the first woman to win a Pulitzer prize for poetry. Known as the poet that dealt in mortal things of beauty and passion, her poetry books sold out even in the midst of the depression and it was said that no poet since Lord Bryon could so mesmerize the public.

A dessert wine and sweet confections will also be served. Tickets can be pre-purchased by calling 233-8542. Call for more information or to reserve your seat.
