Garden club holds meeting
At the Estero Island Garden Club meeting on March 1, Debbie Hughes, horticulturalist at the Ford and Edison Winter Estates, made a presentation on “Container Gardening.” Debbie brought with her many examples of flowers and plants suitable for growing in containers. She also gave tips on choosing the right container and on using containers to enhance the appearance of a home. Finally, Debbie assembled a container garden, using three different plants in a very large container. She placed a tall, tropical plant in the center, three smaller tropicals around the sides, and yellow kalanchoe flowers in between the tropicals. Debbie created an instant garden which was both stunning and easy to care for.
On March 15, the garden club will be visiting the Conservancy of Southwest Florida in Naples. The group will take a naturalist-guided tour of the nature center, the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center and take a boat trip up the Gordon River.
