Bay Oaks to benefit from sponsored dance

2 min read

Bay Oaks Recreational Campus youth and senior programs will be getting support from an event that is certainly a blast from the past. Money will be raised by the Fort Myers Beach Civic Association in conjunction with the Beached Whale and the Mermaid Lounge and Liquors during a special 50’s and 60’s dance called the Bay Oaks Boogie at the town’s recreational center on Saturday, March 27, from 7 to 11 p.m. After expenses, all proceeds will go directly to Bay Oaks.

Tickets for the event are $15 per person and can be purchased at The Mermaid Lounge and Liquors or at Bay Oaks Recreation Center. The entry passes will also be sold at the door for any late comers.

“I think it’s wonderful when a community organization comes together to raise money for our kids and our seniors,” said Bay Oaks Recreation Manager Nicole Olsen, who will be in attendance before, after and during. “I also think it’s wonderful that people recognize Bay Oaks as a true community center, which is really our goal, and to have a place to bring people together and benefit everyone.”

A disc jockey will be spinning tunes from the particular eras. Cocktails will also be served. Different games will be played during the dance.

“There will be trivia games from the time period and a dance contest,” said Olsen. “I think “Name That Tune” and a twister contest will be involved.”

The FMB Civic Association would like to see full community participation for this worthy cause. The group is collecting gift certificates for the dance.

The benefit will assure that the children and adults of the Beach are able to take advantage of all the programs which Bay Oaks Recreation Manager Nicole Olsen is putting together, according to the civic group.

Come and join Elvis, Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, Connie Francis, Brenda Lee, The Four Seasons… all of the great rockers of the past.
