FPTA receives grant for high speed rail
The Florida Public Transportation Association thanks President Obama and Vice President Biden for coming to Tampa recently and announcing that Florida will receive $1.25 billion in grants for high speed rail.
“Everyone hates traffic congestion and this is a great step forward in creating better mobility and a more competitive Florida ” said FPTA Executive Director Wes Watson. “Transit investment creates jobs, stimulates economic activity, is environmentally friendly and lessens America’s reliance on foreign oil. This project makes Florida an even better place to live, work, visit, invest and conduct business”.
FPTA congratulates the Florida Legislature for having the foresight to meet in special session, Governor Crist, the Florida Department of Transportation, and citizen advocacy groups such as High Speed Rail Connect Us for working to bring these needed transportation dollars to Florida .
The Florida Public Transportation Association is a nonprofit association whose members include every major public transit agency in Florida as well as interested citizens and businesses. The FPTA acts as a collective voice in promoting the recognition, use, expansion and enhancement of public transportation in the state of Florida . The transit industry in Florida already employs tens of thousands of Floridians, transports about 262 million riders a year, and creates billions of dollars per year in annual economic activity.
