FMB Art Association announces Winter Show winners

The annual Winter Juried Show sponsored by Red Coconut RV Resort was judged by award-winning artist John Salminen while here doing his workshop at the Fort Myers Beach Art Association gallery. He found the work outstanding and varied in both style and medium. Artists from the SW Florida council were invited to enter work along with the members of the Fort Myers Beach Art Association. The result is a fine show that will be on display and for sale until Feb. 26 during regular gallery hours.

There is still time to sign up for the short workshops taught by member artists at the beach gallery. Danica Walker has just won first place and Neil Walling an honorable mention. Both these artists regularly place in the shows they enter and have constented to share their knowledge with students once again. Mary Ann Devos is a teachers teacher and will assist students to create a beautiful silver piece to take home. Fred Dingler is an instructor who brings out the best in his students each season. Don’t miss these classes.

– Dannica Walker watercolor- Feb. 4 and 5

This class is for the watercolorist wanting to take their paintings to the next level with emphasis on dynamic design combined with strong values and creative color choices. Dannica is a local award winning artist and we hope she will show us some of her techniques.

– Mary Ann Devos silver and stone jewelry- Feb. 11 and 12

Precious Metal Clay works like modeling clay but the finished products are solid fine silver. Class participants will learn the proper techniques for creating unusual jewelry pieces to take home. She and her husband Ken have two books out showing her process and results “Introduction to Precious Metal Clay” and “Precious Metal Clay in Mixed Media”. Their Web site is www.pmcconnection.com

– Neil Walling oil, acrylic – March 18, 19 and 20

Neil will teach oil painting (and some acrylic). His workshop is divided into the first day of basics, second day landscapes and third day portraits. Neil is a very popular local artist and instructor.

– Fred Dingler all media – March 9, 11, and 12

Fred works with beginners to advanced each at their own pace, in their own medium. Students can bring unfinished works or start a new project.

All of these classes are $60 per day with Neil’s three-day class $150 for all three days, non-members pay $10 extra per day Classes are held at the FMBAA gallery on the corner of Donora and Shell Mound, turn at the blinking light on Estero Blvd. There are sign up sheets at the gallery as well as examples of the artists’ work. Students will pay the instructors directly but need to sign up ASAP. If you cannot come to the gallery, please call the gallery at 463-3909 and ask them to sign you up. Watch for the annual ART BAZAAR on March 14 at the FMB Library.

The gallery is on Donora Street at the blinking light off Estero Blvd. It is open Monday-Saturday 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday noon to 3 p.m. Visitors are always welcome and new members delight us.
