Shrimp Festival queen applications are being accepted
The Fort Myers Beach Lions 52nd annual Shrimp Festival Queen Pageant is looking for contestants. Estero Island’s largest annual event run for 52 years by the Ft. Myers Beach Lions is seeking girls age 16-20 and single who would like to become this yea’rs Shrimp Festival Queen.
Contestants must be able to appear at all the events for judging and in the Festival Parade and at the Festival March 13 and 14. The great history of this event has many former participants returning to and involved in the event today.
Each contestant will receive a savings bond. Trophies and/or prizes will be awarded to the winner of each of the following categories: Queen; First Runner-up, Second Runner-up, Miss Personality, Miss Congeniality (voted on by participants), and Miss Photogenic (judged on official photos).
All participants are already winners by helping the Fort Myers Beach Lions Club and local Sight and Cancer projects with their participation. Details about the festival and the contest application are found at www.fortmyersbeachshrimpfestival.com
The 2009 Queen and the 2010 Princesses will ride in the Shrimp Festival Parade on the morning of Saturday, March 13. The 2010 Queen Pageant will start at 1 p.m. at Lynn Hall Park. For an application, please call Carolyn Van Duzer 463-9738. Please get your application in by Feb. 15th.
The Queen’s Ball will be held Saturday, Feb. 27, at St. Raphael’s Episcopal Church located at 5601 Williams Dr. Entertainment will be provided by local artists DAZ. Tickets are $10 per person and the price includes entertainment and hors d’oeuvres. Call for advance tickets (Carolyn 463-9738.) Liquid refreshments will be available. Come join the fun and meet the Queen contestants and dance to the music of DAZ.
The Fort Myers Beach Lions Foundation is a 501c(3) not for profit corporation. The Shrimp Festival is the Beach Lions Club’s major fund raiser for the year and all proceeds go to Lions charities and local community projects.
