The Fort Myers Beach Women’s Club will host its long-standing annual fashion show and card luncheon on Friday, Jan. 22, starting at 11:30 a.m. “Spring Fling” is again the theme of the show.

Leani’s Swimwear and Sportswear will be providing a “dazzling” array of swim and sports fashion clothing which will be modeled by club members. The models will be displaying beach attire, evening clothing and casual wear.

“The ladies are expected to come over here and pick out a couple of outfits each,” said Dave Sorenson of Leani’s. “We have some beautiful outfits. All of our new lines are in.”

The popular beach event features many drawings for door prizes as well as 50-50 cash raffle drawings. Door prizes include generous gifts donated by local merchants as well as club members. Some of the contributing merchants gifts are from the Island Girl, Island Hair Studios and Palmettos Appeal.

This event is a main fundraiser of the FMB Women’s Club which contributes to the following charities: Ronald McDonald House, Hospice, Beach Camp and Gabriel House.

“This is the money that we draw to make our donations to our charities for the year,” said Woman’s Club President Nancy Hurl. “We hold three fundraising functions – the home tour, the flea market and the style show. It’s really important for us to have the participation from the community.”

Hurl said Dusty and Jenny from Esterra Spa & Salon will be donating their time to style the models’ hair before the show. After the fashion show and luncheon of hot chicken salad and carrot cake, bridge and other card games will be played.

Tickets are a $20 donation to the non-profit group, and can be purchased at Wachovia Bank across the street from Santini Plaza, the Wachovia Bank in Sea Grape Plaza or by contacting Nancy Herl at 765-1292.

The Women’s Club is located at 175 Sterling Street behind the AAIM Reality Company.

Last year, the Spring Fling was filled to capacity, so get your tickets now. The show was held Friday, Jan. 23, 2009. Every seat was filled and the club members were very sorry that several woman were too late to get tickets. The guests raved about the darling jackets and gorgeous fashions.

The Beach Women’s Club has been known to have scrapbooks that date back to 1950, so its history is rich.
