Mack: Downtown Naples Post Office removed from closure list
Congressman Connie Mack (FL-14) announced today that the downtown Naples Post Office, located at 860 Sixth Avenue South, was removed from the U.S. Post Office’s list of potential closures.
Mack said:
“I congratulate Councilman John Sorey, Mayor Bill Barnett, Postmaster Richard Barber, State Senator Garrett Richter, State Representative Tom Grady, and all of the Southwest Floridians who fought to keep the downtown Naples Post Office open. The strong grassroots support helped to show the U.S. Postal Service the value that the downtown post office brings to the Naples community.
“The Sixth Avenue post office handles a tremendous volume of mail every day from the area’s businesses and residents. Closing the facility in downtown Naples would only lead to delivery delays and increased congestion for the people of Southwest Florida.
“I’m pleased that the U.S. Postal Service has reversed course, and I applaud the people of Southwest Florida for their hard work in making their case to the Postal Service.”
Mack sent a letter to the U.S. Postmaster General about the importance of keeping the downtown Naples post office open, and has remained in constant communication with the Postal Service regarding the post office’s status.
