Crime Stoppers Puts Its Mark On Crime Scene Tape To Encourage Tips

2 min read

In an effort to generate leads on unsolved cases, Crime Stoppers is utilizing a new tool to remind residents to pick up the phone and call in anonymous tips.

Over the next week, law enforcement agencies throughout Southwest Florida will be receiving boxes of crime scene tape – each roll printed with the Crime Stoppers name and hotline number, as a visual reminder to have potential witnesses who might otherwise not come forward to call in anonymous tips. The tape will be used at crime scenes throughout our community where traditional yellow crime scene tape would otherwise be used.

“There have been many instances where residents are standing around a crime scene, yet some are reluctant to come forward and talk to law enforcement about what they saw, or heard, for various reasons. We are hopeful that when they see the Crime Stoppers phone number on the crime scene tape, that they’ll give a second thought to

doing the right thing and calling us with what they know,” said Trish Routte, Crime Stoppers Coordinator.

It is anticipated that the rolls of tape will be delivered by the end of next week.

As always, anyone with information on an unsolved crime, or a wanted fugitive, is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS (8477). All callers will remain anonymous and will be eligible for up to $1,000 in cash rewards. Tips may also be made online at www.swflcrimestoppers.org.
