Mission party by Beach residents

The first annual Women and Children’s Mission Party was a Huge Success!
The event was held at Immokalee Community Park, on Oct. 10.
Fort Myers Beach residents and snowbirds Sheila Hudgins, Rosa Vasquez, Rose Concert, Karen Boardman (Lehigh Acres) and Laura Brouillard hosted the event. There were 104 guests of men, women and children served.
Lunch was Concert’s famous homemade Italian meat sauce over penna pasta, along with salad, bread and butter and cookies for dessert. Everyone had a blast playing the balloon race, balloon stomp, and musical hat games.
You can imagine the children’s surprise when Santa arrived! He had a new outfit and toy for each child. The guest left the party with almost more than they could carry after the food, clothes, and household items giveaway.
Brouillard, the event Coordinator, came up with the mission party idea after returning from a mission trip to Central America. Her gift of giving did not seem enough to her. Laura’s goal was to make it a party too, so everyone could get a chance to laugh and have fun and forget about their worries for a day. While at mass at St. Columbkille church in Fort Myers, Father John Endejan asked for prayer for the people of Immokalee. Laura was to leave with her husband Tom Brouillard on that following Monday morning but instead dropped him off at the airport and God lead her to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Immokalee to start her party plans.
Laura is planning for the party to be an annual if not semi-annual event at the Immokalee Community Park each year. There is a definite plan for 2010 around the same time in October.
