Methodist church opens concert season

The Beach United Methodist Church performing arts concert season begins on Sunday, Nov. 29, featuring Melody Anglin, Harpist. The HIBISCUS SERIES, which had its first season last year, was developed by Dr. Douglas Renfroe, Director of Music and Fine Arts at BUMC. This season will feature a variety of musical offerings from the Palm Strings String Quartet (SWFL Symphony); to tenor Robert Beane; to a full choral and orchestral concert in February. Beginning the year is seasoned concert harpist, Melody Long Anglin.

Ms. Anglin has performed extensively throughout Europe, has been featured at various music festivals in the United States, has appeared on numerous PBS specials, and has played with such artists as Mannheim Steamroller, Three Irish Tenors, and Dave Brubeck. As a composer, she has received acclaim from various orchestras and music festivals throughout the world. In addition, she is an outstanding soprano soloist, which creates a varied and unique concert opportunity.

Joining Melody Anglin for this concert will be Danut Muresan of the SWFL Symphony on violin, Jonathan Anglin on cello, and bass baritone Douglas Renfroe as guest soloist. Featured on this Advent concert will be an original composition by Ms. Anglin, Story of Christmas in Song. She will also be featured during the morning service at Beach United Methodist Church beginning at 10:30 a.m.. The concert will begin at 2:00 p.m. in the BUMC Sanctuary, with a love offering collected to offset expenses.
