Boy Scouts gather food for hungry

2 min read

Recently, hundreds of Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts in Lee County gathered shopping bags full of food from generous households for the needy as part of the annual Scouting for Food Drive. All the food collected in Lee County was taken to the Harry Chapin Food Bank. According to Joyce Jacobs, associate director of the Harry Chapin Food Bank, the Scouting For Food Drive had a huge increase in food donations this year. Last year the drive brought in over 8,500 pounds of food in Lee County and the boys see the hunger problem and learn to help other children and seniors in their own community.

The Boy Scouts of America ~ Southwest Florida Council would like to thank all the communities in Lee County who generously donated to this drive.

Scouting for Food is part of a larger, national community service project organized by the Boy Scouts of America, called ‘Good Turn for America.’ Good Turn for America is a national call for local community service that incorporates Scouting for Food, Scouting for Shelter, and Healthy Living, which focuses on several issues, such as hunger, homelessness, and obesity in America.
