Accreditation Assessment Team Invites Public Comment
A team of assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. will arrive November 14, to examine all aspects of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office policy and procedures, management, operations and support services.
Verification by the team that the agency meets the Commission’s state-of-the-art standards is part of a voluntary process to gain re-accreditation — a highly prized recognition of law enforcement professional excellence. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office achieved accreditation in 1991, and re-accredited in 1995, 1997, 2001, 2003 and 2006.
As part of the on-site assessment, members of the community and agency employees are invited to offer comments on the Sheriff’s Office services and performance at a public information session Monday, Nov. 16, at 6 p.m. The session will be conducted at the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, 14750 Six Mile Cypress Parkway, Fort Myers in Training Room.
If for some reason an individual cannot speak at the public information session, but would like to provide comments to the assessment team, he or she may do so by telephone. The public may call 477-1634 on Monday, Nov. 16, between the hours of 1 and 5 p.m.
Telephone comments as well as appearances at the public information session are limited to 10 minutes and must address the Sheriff’s Office ability to comply with CALEA’S standards. A copy of the standards is available for review at the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
