Mack: Afghanistan, Honduras show administration’s indecisive foreign policy

Congressman Connie Mack (FL-14), the Ranking Republican of the House Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere, issued the following statement today on the eighth anniversary of the start of U.S. military operations against the Taliban and al-Qaeda in Afghanistan.

Mack said:

“On the eighth anniversary of the start of U.S. military operations in Afghanistan, the Obama Administration has chosen to be indecisive in their approach to keeping our commitments to the American people, our troops, and our allies in finishing the job we set out to do in Afghanistan.

“Today’s anniversary reminds us of the tragic attacks on the American people. But it also shows us that the Obama Administration is moving in the wrong direction in their approach to foreign policy. From the Middle East, to Iran, to Venezuela, and most recently Honduras, the Administration is making the wrong decisions for the wrong reasons. Their approach to foreign policy threatens to undermine the freedom, security and prosperity of our country and our allies.

“We must also not forget why we are in Afghanistan in the first place to eliminate a safe haven for terrorists and protect our national security. Leaving before our mission is completed in Afghanistan would destabilize its neighbors and would undermine our fight in the global war on terror. That’s why we must listen to our commanders in the field and commit the resources our troops need to fight and win in Afghanistan and defeat our enemies.

“The United States must continue to be the beacon of hope and opportunity across the globe, and we must continue to stand united and strong against enemies of freedom. And that starts at the top with strong public support from the President.”
