Summer Slam fishing tournament returns

2 min read

The Eleventh Annual Summer Slam is coming to the Pink Shell Resort this weekend with a two-day tournament and one day of fishing.

Much like its sister tournament -the Caloosa Catch and Release- the object is to hook onto snook, redfish and snapper, plus a mystery fish.

The event, which will include an unlimited number of anglers, will be the last chance to qualify for the Caloosa Grand Championship. Wade fishing will be allowed.

“The Summer Slam is really a fun tournament,” said Tournament Director Ron Riley. “The fact that it’s only one day of fishing, I think it truly allows everyone to have a more level playing field. On any given one day of fishing, anybody can get lucky. I think it’s one of the fairest tournaments that we have for almost anybody at any skill level to have a good chance of placing.”

The tournament weekend begins Friday, Sept. 11, with an open check-in at 3 p.m. and an open bar provided by Bahama Breeze Caribbean Grill. Complimentary Land Shark Lager will be offered at all functions. You can purchase Great XX Anniversary Caloosa Limited Edition Shirts for the Summer Slam and Special Lazy Flamingo Summer Slam Hats. Specialty cigars from a brand new company in the area will be given to every angler at check-in. Lunch will be provided by Good Soup; Culligan Water is available for all teams.

Dinners with the Captain’s Meeting -slated for 7:30 p.m. Friday- are sponsored by Pink Shell.

Each team will be spotlighted at the two-hour weigh-in event from 3 to 5 p.m.

There will be up to $20,000 for the Hooter’s Redfish Bonanza.

“You can actually register right up until Friday at Pink Shell,” said Riley. “As always, it’s fun for families. “Everyone is welcomed to come to the weigh station. All the fish come back in this tournament. As a result, people who want to see the fish, they get to see a lot of neat fish come back.”

There will be no entries sent by mail, so visit the Web site at: www.caloosacatchandrelease.com and click on the Summer Slam logo for all info and an entry form.
